Act II

One hundred years later in a dark forest, a Prince by the name of Florimund is hunting with his friends. He leaves his friends and insists on being alone. Lilac Fairy hears the commotion and ventures out to Prince Florimund. He tells her that he is lonely and is in need of love. She has the perfect idea. She presents an image of Princess Aurora to him and he instantly falls in love.

She leads him to the castle to rescue the beautiful Princess and put an end to the evil fairy, Carabosse. Lilac Fairy reveals the hidden castle to Prince Florimund. Just when Prince Florimund steps into the castle doorway, Carabosse appears before him. She will not let him pass and a battle quickly follows. Prince Florimund finally overpowers her and he races into the castle. Knowing the only way to break the spell, he quickly finds Princess Aurora and kisses her. The spell is broken and Carabosse is finally defeated. Princess Aurora and her entire family wake up from their deep sleep. Princess Aurora accepts Prince Florimund’s proposal for marriage and her family approves.

Sleeping Beauty – Act 1

Continued….

IUBT performs “The Sleeping Beauty” Act I

It is Princess Aurora’s sixteenth birthday. Celebrations are already underway: the atmosphere is festive, made complete with a waltz danced by the villagers with garlands.  Aurora receives her four royal suitors and their gifts of exquisite roses. Soon after, Aurora is presented with a spindle as a gift from a disguised Carabosse—an object which she has never before seen. Carelessly, she dances with it despite her mother and father’s warnings before accidentally pricking herself. She faints. To the horror of all, Carabosse immediately reveals her true wicked self triumphantly, vanishing before the princes can vanquish her. At that very moment, the Lilac Fairy appears as she had promised. She reminds the remaining guests and the King and Queen of her gift—Aurora will not die, but merely sleep. She then casts a spell of slumber upon the entire kingdom so that they will only awake when Aurora does.

Sleeping Beauty – Prologue

… as performed by Indiana University Ballet Theater

http://music.indiana.edu/events/program.php?eid=10319

Prologue – Aurora’s Christening Ceremony

King Florestan the XXIVth declares a grand christening ceremony to be held in honor of the birth of his daughter, Princess Aurora named after the dawn.  An entourage of six fairies are invited to the Christening to be godmothers to the child. They are the Candide Fairy, the Coulante Fairy, the Miettes Fairy, the Canari Fairy, the Violente Fairy and—most importantly—the Lilac Fairy, who is the last to arrive. As the fairies are happily granting gifts of honesty, grace, prosperity, song and generosity, they are suddenly interrupted by the arrival of the wicked fairy Carabosse, who is furious at the King’s failure to invite her to the ceremony. The King and Queen begin to remonstrate, and the Master of Ceremonies, Catallabutte, intervenes to take responsibility, whereupon Carabosse rips off his eyebrows and wig, laughing. With spite and rage, Carabosse declares her curse on Princess Aurora: she will prick her finger on her sixteenth birthday and die. But all is not lost: the Lilac Fairy, fortunately, has not yet granted her gift to the Princess. She acknowledges that Carabosse’s power is immense and she cannot completely reverse the curse. However, she declares, though the Princess shall indeed prick her finger, she will not die, but instead sleep for 100 years until she is awakened by the kiss of a prince.

Alice!

I do so much enjoy photographing dance. Especially the Boulder Ballet. This weekend they are putting on “Alice In Wonderland.” Last night I went to the dress rehearsal and, although I was looking through my tiny viewfinder the entire time, I loved the show. I remember seeing it about 5 years ago and, from what I recollect,  it appears that the choreography for this year’s production is almost entirely new. And wonderful and even better than the first version (which my son was in as The Mad Hatter). So, bravo to Ana, the choreographer, for her terrific and magical re-creation.

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun

What do you get when you have 5 teenage girls at a sleep-over? Well, apparently, I get to do a photo shoot.  These are my daughter’s “ballerina” friends letting down their hair (literally!) Who said bun heads didn’t know how to have fun!

WPPI Day 1

Looking out my window in the MGM Grand, I have a perfect view of  “Hooters.” OK – so not exactly my style but hey, I’m not here for the scenery or the night life. (I know, live it up Sue).  I just sat in on WPPI’s (Wedding and Portrait Photographers International) premier print competition. Fascinating. I love hearing the judges’ (5 of them) critiques. It goes on for 8 hours a day for 2 solid days. Of course, most people don’t sit in on the entire judging process. But I like to spend a couple of hours there as it is extremely interesting and educational. You will hear everything that is “right” about a photograph and everything that is “wrong” (at least in these people’s opinions.) I must say, I was usually on target with my own personal judging although, every once in awhile, I totally disagreed with the consensus.

So, I should probably go and put a few nickels int the slots. And then on to a  fun and fast-paced event where both experienced and up-and-coming photographers demonstrate cool techniques, trends, ideas and inspiration in 5-minute presentations.

What Is Boudoir Photography?

Boudoir sessions are tasteful photos that hint at sexiness. Every person has their own idea of what sexy is as well as what they are comfortable with. These sessions are fun, sexy, flirty and even a bit sensual all the while maintaining your comfort level.  A good photographer will know just how to highlight your assets while disguising the parts of you that you’re self conscious about.  You don’t have to take your clothes off to be sexy. Clothed, partially clothed, hinted nudity and fully nude can all be sexy. Let your photographer know what you’re comfortable showing in your photos and trust them to keep the parts you want hidden to stay that way.

Boudoir Photography is often used by brides to surprise their future husbands by gifting the images on or before their wedding day. Other reasons for having a boudoir photography shoot include anniversaries, birthdays, Valentine’s Day, maternity, and for servicemen overseas

Privacy is a concern due to the intimate nature of boudoir sessions. All boudoir images are kept in strict confidence and no images will be shown without permission from the client in writing. All images are printed personally by me.
